New workplace models - office buildings with greenhouse walls.

As its name implies, Office Farm is a design for an office building that is able to produce hydroponic food. The food production part of the building is tended by a gardener but office workers are also involved in the production environment, increasing awareness of food production and consumption.

The idea of combining an office environment with agricultural production was based on the fact that it is in the office where people are most likely to get stressed and forget about how simple life really is at the end of the day.
After deciding on combining these two things the question then was how this could be done.
This is where I tried to focus on two things, efficiency, both in terms of crop production and building ESD as well as how the occupants of the building could be involved in the agricultural process.
In terms of efficiency I realised that due to the needs of plants and offices being quite different what could be done was place greenhouses on the building's roof and within double skin North facades to work as insulation for the offices as well as improving the natural ventilation and air quality of the building.
Looking at how the system could actually work and how the office workers could interact with the plants I realised that since they would be sitting next to these plants for most of the day, 5 days a week, who else would be better at taking care of the plants.
The possibility of this new working model where office workers also have other responsibilities besides just their desk job ended up being my main interest in this project.
