This project proposes the extension of the existing Westgate Park Wetland System, providing the local residents with an area where the multiple needs of industry, recreation, wildlife and climate are acknowledged and integrated. The project is not sited within the EBD, but incorporates the principles of mixed-use space, reclamation of former industrial sites and staged remediation common to many of the EBD projects. Identifying flooding and stormwater risks, and proposing large-scale filtration systems to increase the resilience of the extended Wetland system in a future of unpredictable weather events, this design project adds to the growing body of possibility for inner-bayside Melbourne.
