ONE solution to Melbourne's water problems could be right on our doorstep. Or waterfront.

A radical plan proposes emptying Victoria Harbour at Docklands of salt water and turning it into a freshwater lake. The lake would collect diverted stormwater from Moonee Ponds Creek, as well as other run-off from Docklands. The water would be treated and used to irrigate parks and gardens.

The idea is a 25-year vision of the Victorian Eco Innovation Lab. VEIL co-ordinator Dianne Moy said while a freshwater lake was a long-term idea.... For full article see the article
